locker letters
A portion of the Memory Box series. A continuation of taking childhood specifics, and transforming them into something more universal. And how words can be manipulated and changed over time. The paper contains strips of notes from my own memory box - all my messages and stories passed back and forth between friends in junior high and high school.
While making the piece, I thought a lot about conveyor belts, words spilling out, generating positive or negative letters, how memories can be destroyed, school shootings, the literacy crisis in schools, the impact of our words and their far-reaching consequences or joys. I read some of the words now fractured and they still pull up all the emotions I felt back then.
Made with xps foam, paper, spray paint, thread, tape.
