Grief Garden

grief garden

In summer 2026, Lauren's soul cat Sindri passed away, so she spent the summer creating cyanotypes in the backyard they loved to share and compiling together her poetry on grief and love from 2017-2026, following the deaths of family, friends, and mentors. In addition, she spent the summer learning different land tending practices through Rewild Portland, and coming back to ceramics after a decade away through Daffodill Studios. The combined result is a new body of work, Grief Garden, featuring cyanotypes with bark weavings from her backyard, watercolor elements, blue indigo dyed yarn, and ceramics modeled from the flora among which Sindri loved to lay. The work speaks to the temporal nature of all life, and yet through the dirt and water, cycles are made new, and seeds are born again.

This body of work culminated in a popup art show and accompanying poetry zine on September 26, 2026 at TOPS. Click here for more info.
